How to be a Successful Student

Teachers are always telling students to be successful in what they do. One teacher that is always telling his students that is Mr. V. Here are many different ways to be a successful student.

1.
Don't talk when a teacher/ substitute is giving instruction of the assignments that are giving. You'll most likely get sent out of the room if you talk.

2.
When returning or if already asked to stop talking, try and keep your mouth shut and try not to move.

3. Also when returning, try and not move that much because the teacher will keep on eye on you more.

4. If the teacher asks you again to leave to the "Principal," don't make "faces" or don't give "attitude."

5. Last, just follow the directions as best as possible.

Thinking about college?

It's the end of the year, and college is right around the corner, right? Okay, maybe it's a long four-year corner, but you've got to start thinking about how you're going to pay for it sooner or later. Might as well be sooner.

Check out my article on Pell Grants  called "Your Pal the Pell Grant" at collegepiggybank.org to start learning about the Pell Grant! Read it, and you'd better like it, too. Seriously: Click the Facebook "Like" button at the top of the article.

I got a Pell Grant to help me through my teaching credential--it's a sweet deal to start off your financial aid. If you thought you had to start off your college career crazy in debt, think again.

Summer is almost near.

The school year is almost over for us and that is just great. No more teachers telling us what to do for awhile and staying up all day and night. I am glad that where going the high school soon and I am really not going to miss this school. I don't exactly know what I am going to do when it is summer but I really don't care. I am just going to enjoy it for as long as it last before we go to school again. So if anyone wants comment on what there going to do just comment on this post.

Stage 7- Amgen Tour de California

This past Saturday I went to go see Stage 7 of the Tour of California. The Tour of California is an 8 day stage race starting in Northern California making its way down hundreds of miles to Southern California. Stage 7 started in Claremont and made its way up to the treachorous Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts. At the start of the stage, there were 10,000 people jam packed in Claremont to watch the start. The riders then made their way up Mt. Baldy Road to the Mt. Baldy Village. When they reached the village, they made left onto Glendora Ridge Road cutting across into the East Fork and down into Azusa. As they headed down the decent, they made a left onto the famous Sierra Madre Blvd. After that long hard stretch, they made another left onto Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) and started the treterous climb of 23 miles averaging 10 % gradients up to the ski lifts. After GMR, they cut across the opposite way they came down on Glendora Ridge Road and headed up even higher to Mt. Baldy. The last 4 miles of the climb/ race was the switchbacks which averaged 18 % gradients. As they started the ascent of the switchbacks, a break away of 2 riders, which contained the top 2 best placed riders in the race, got away to the finish for the win. Both of the riders were also on the same team Radioshack. That day/ stage will go into the history books and will never be forgotten.

Introducing Indo vs. Irish!

I would like to introduce a new blog created by a fellow classmate, Irish, and me, Indo. We call it Indo vs. Irish. In this blog, we will discuss about many sports topics. Unlike most sport blogs, it will have two rival bloggers with opposite ideas and will argue about everything. So please visit Indo vs. Irish, and I hope you will like it.

Pumas Are The New Champions of Mexico!!!!

The Pumas are now Champions for el Clausura 2011. They beat Monarcas Morelia in a very intense game. The game started and there was two penalties in the first half of the game. I think both penalties where not even penalties. About 10 minutes to the end of the game Javier Cortes takes on five guys and makes the winning gol for the Pumas. With this Pumas became Champions again and now have seven championships.

Eastern Confernece Finals

When I looked at the series between the Heat and Bulls I see two teams that have all-star scorers, Lebron and Wade for the Heat and Rose and Boozer for the Bulls, and also a great defense to compliment the scorers. Going into the series I thought every game would go down to buzzer and who ever made the last shot would win the game. After Game 1, which the Bulls won by over ten, my friend,Irish, said the Heat were going to get swept. I said that was unreasonable and I was proved right when the Heat won Game 2. In Game 3 the Heat pulled out a close one thanks to Lebron being clutch and scoring most of their final points. The Heat are up 2-1 and there is a game tonight at 5:30 where the Heat try to go up 3-1.

Social Media

Everywhere social media ruins peoples lives. Even famous athletes are getting made fun of just because of what they post on twitter which is just ridiculous. Pro athlete Reggie Bush is a victim of social media just for saying that it is good to be not on training because of the lock-out. Just for that people are getting mad. There is no reason to get mad just on one thing. I don't think that laying back and resting at home is something bad when you have to practice in about 100 degree weather with humidity every day. There is no possible reason to get mad at this at all. The social media is going to far now.

Social Media

Social Media is a bunch of idiots trying to ruin peoples life's.I believe they are bullying people with there knowledge. These Social Idiots should get a life and find a real job that does not hurt people. One case is Reggie Bush.He said that he is enjoying his time because of the lockout.Whats wrong with this?I would much rather enjoy all that money he has than work out in lot of humidity in Florida. The media always has to give their two cents.Eventually the media always goes to far though. These people have a life and you don't.Stop acting like idiots and do your job,sit on your behind with a computer an coffee.

Social Media Ruining Peoples Lives

I feel that you need to not post anything that's plain stupidity and that you'll regret. These ideas will ruin your social media life. You can use it for good if your doing school work on the Internet. For example, a class blog can be used for good because it's school related. I think we can avoid pulling a bad number is by thinking of how your audience is going to react before posting. Or would I would do is just not post anything at all where the whole world can see. This is how Social Media can ruin peoples lives.

Social Media Disasters

Lately many famous or just common people have been using the media in way that most people would not think the media would be used for. Reggie Bush, a NFL player, recently commented on Twitter that he was glad that the lockout happened because he was not forced to practice in the 108 degree heat. I personally think that if he is a NFL than he should not go around saying things that he just might very well know that it would anger many people. This one of many examples of how people abuse the power of social media. I think the solution is short and simple, only use the media for important things. You should not put things on the web and not expect some people to get mad at you. The media is helpful because it tells us thing thaty we need to know because they effected our lives in some way or another.

How Not to Have a Social Media Disaster

In response to English Answer Man's post, I believe there is one thing that prevents you from pulling a "Jessi Slaughter". There is a thin line between respect and disrespect, and the ones who have had the social media destroy themselves have crossed the line. For example, Jessi Slaughter got caught in her mess because she insulted many people. Also, Dwight Howard got into his trouble because he doubted a newspaper's intellect. Meanwhile, many people, whether famous or common, use Facebook and Twitter, and still respect others while never getting in trouble. This emphasizes the point mentioned on English Answer Man's post: what goes around comes around.

Dress Code

There has recently been some debate about dress code. There is many questions that still need to be answered. One question is the debate over teachers and how they dress.I believe that a teacher should dress in a respectful manor. It looks very unprofessional if you just throw on some cloths.I believe that teachers should have an even stricter code then students.Looking unprofessional can lead to bad impressions and loss of job.Mr.V shows a perfect example of teacher dress code when he arrives at school everyday.Sure teachers can wear whatever they want in there free life but keep it professional at school.Teacher watch what you were.

Teacher dress code

I decided to respond to post on Englishanswerman talking about if teachers should have a dress code or not. In my opinion I think they should have a dress code if we students have one. Its only fair for them to have one if we do. This is my honest opinion for this blog from Englishanswerman blog site.

East and West Conference Semi-finals

We have finally advanced to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. The biggest news so far is the Memphis Grizzlies, who were in 8th place, upsetting the top-spot Spurs. Now they play Durantula and the thunder. The Lakers escaped slimintion after that shocking game 1 against New Orleans. They play tonight against Dallas. The biggest games for the next 2 weeks is the highly anticipated Heat-Celtics Match-up. I'm going to hear a lot from certain Patrick. Other than that, I'm just going to relax and enjoy the show.

Dress Code For Teachers

My Teacher has a post on teachers having dress code that I'm going to talk about today. I think that teachers should also have there own dress code. Them having their own dress code makes it even for all us in the school campus. There is this _______ Teacher that gives dress codes to students all the time to kids. I mean thats o.k if she does give dress codes but whats dumb about it she wears inappropriate clothes as well. Nobody ever tells her anything about it. I think what schools need is a dress code for everyone in the campus.

Dana Point Grand Prix

This past weekend I raced in the city of Dana Point. Now normally I race the junior category 13- 14. But this prestigious race didn't have that category; so I raced in the men's category 4 race. We had a full field of 150 riders. The course was a fast, technical 1 mile course with 6 turns and a couple of inclines. We started at 9:30 and we were racing for 40 minutes. My first goal of the day was to start at the first row, which I did. We started really quickly. Through out the whole race I maintained my position in the top 15 spots to stay out of any trouble like crashing. I also wanted to stay in those positions so at the final sprint I could be right in the front. With 3 laps to go I was in position, and then there was a nasty crash at the first turn. A police motorcycle came and stopped right in front of the rider. The next time we came around, the motorcycle was still there at the first turn. As we were making the turn I was on the inside and was not paying attention at all to the motorcycle and I had no idea the motorcycle until after when one of my team mates told me. So as we turned a rider wasn't paying attention and hit the motorcycle while his bike flew 20 feet into the air. As we kept riding, we made it to 1 lap to go safely. I was positioned in the top 20 positions. When we made it to the final chicane, I was right in position to get a top 20. We got on to the final sprint stretch and I tryed to sprint as hard as I can to maintain a top 20 finish. At the end when results were posted, I finished safely in the top 20 spots out of the full field of 150 riders.

Dress Code

I am responding to a post on a blog called englishanswerman that talks about if teachers should have a dress code. I personally think they should because if they expect the children at school to wear a certain kind of clothes then they should practice what they preach and follow a dress code designed for them. Some people say that they are professionals and they should not be told what to wear. I think if they believe they are professionals then they should dress accordingly to what they believe they are, professionals. They should not be wearing casual sweats and a pajama t-shirt. If you are a professional then you should wear nice pants, a nice shirt, and a tie(if you are a man). If you are a woman then you should wear a nice shirt and a skirt(maybe jeans sometimes) or a dress. Now if you have something to say about this a would love to hear it so just type a comment and I will try to get back to you.

Dress Codes for Teachers

What do I think about teachers being dress coded? I really don't care. As a student, I have never been dress coded, so I have no feeling of revenge like some other people. Instead, I think that if the teacher does not affect the "learning process" by disturbing the students with his/her clothes, then I really don't care what you wear. That's my opinion.

JOIN OUR WORLD

I have a found a new useful site on the Internet.Monnasii is a resourceful site to keep you up to date on the latest updates on sports, politics, and whatever you are interested in.You can blog about your opinion to the rest of the world. This can be very helpful if your bragging to your Friends and you don't really know what happen. If you need some help on your personal love life or if you think Obama is horrible president.Let the world know what your opinion is.If your trying to beat that one Mario level chose the games. You can join this world and be very resourceful.

Lakers vs Hornets

The Lakers first playoff team is the New Orlean Hornets. The first game they played was in the Staples Center. The hornets won the first game but the Lakers came back strong and beat the Hornets the next two games. then hornets beat the Lakers once again and they tied the seies 2-2. The Lakers played last night and beat hem by almost 20 points. In the first quarter the lakers were down like two, three points. In the Second quarter the Lakers have been loosing still but at the end the lakers came back and left to half time with three points. In the third quarter it was the same but at bthe end it was good and they got to win by 16 points. thanks to all the turnovers the Hornets had. After this game we go 3-2 in the series and we head to New Orleans.

Usefullness

Today I will instruct you to make a very enjoyable/good post. I think the most important thing to do in a blog is to have correct grammar and spelling. The blog you post can never be torn down from the internet. This means that everyone everywhere can see the blog so you want to make yourself look good. You do not want to be spelling every other word wrong or not use any periods. People will think you are an illiterate 45 year old. After that, another hint that makes your post more interesting is to put a link. For example if you are writing about a restaurant or store you could put a hyperlink to their web site so everyone can see what you are talking about. People will have a greater chance of understanding and agreeing with you if you put a hyperlink in your post. If u do not know how to hyperlink this is how you do it.

UEFA Champions League

On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be 2 epic semifinal games for the Champions League in soccer. My favorite team Manchester United will host Manuel Neuer's Cinderella team Mercurial Schalke, who have defeated Inter Milan. Then, the day after, we relive El Clasico, the bitter rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona. What a match! I'm hoping for Man U to beat Real in the final game, but it's too early to tell. Still, that won't stop me from watching it all.

Devil's Punchbowl Road Race

Yesterday the Southern California Velo juniors and myself raced the Devil's Punchbowl Road Race. When we started at 1:
15 the winds were really kicking up. We started neutral for about a mile until the first left turn. When we made it to the turn, some made the mistake of going right. Everyone finally went left and when down a short little bump. When we started the first false flat, the first attack went. I told our team to let him stay to let him cook out on the front. We eventually caught him earlier than expected because he sat up. The pace to the feed zone felt really unusual. We then made a right to the step climb with crosswinds.....it was tough!! When we started the steps, me and 2 other riders found ourselves in breakaway because of the pace that we were putting on the field. We then started the decent and then a quick right turn at the bottom. One of my breakaway companions almost slipped out at the turn because of the gravel. We got into a rhythm, then I heard someone calling my name. It was Annan. So I told the riders that were in the break to wait for him so we can have more help to get farther away. He latched on for a little bit but then couldn't hang on to the pace being put on. I kept telling him he has to try and hang on and that he can do it, but he just couldn't. We made it to the last turn, which was also a really bad turn. We kept rotating until we reached the line of cars. We all wanted to be in the back but we just couldn't. So the other 2 went way too early; I don't know what they were thinking but I knew I had to wait on my sprint because of a major headwind. I sat on their wheels until I felt I was ready to go. When I went, I had to go on the right side because if I went on the left I would've crossed the yellow line. I had plenty of room on the right to pass. As I was passing the two riders in our break, one of them started to sprint with me and then started bumping elbows with me. He started loosing control but I may have held him up because he was leaning on me. I held my line and kept my bike in control. I kept sprinting and took the win with my hands raised in the air. A special thanks to our team manager Dominic Galenti for a great bike fit the day before. And thank you to the Southern California Junior cycling team for all your support.

Right now i know our class is reading the "Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. I think this book is really good and I would really like to know if you like this book or not. That is it for now.

Copa Del Rey

Yesterday the rivalry played. Real Madrid vs Barcelona. Real Madrid won 1-0 against Barcelona. It was o-o and they went to extra time. Cristiano Ronaldo made un Golazo. he headed it in from the centro from Di Maria and it was awsome. With that goal they won. the last time they won was in 1993. It was a great game at the end.

Welcome, Foreigners!

It's kind of funny what people look at on the Internet. Since I'm one of the moderators of this blog, I know everything about it. For example, I can look up the stats on our blog. This includes all the people from foreign countries that have seen our blog. Just in the last week, there have been 4 page views from Malaysia and even a guy from Denmark looked at this site. Since we started in the beginning of the school year people from Malaysia, Denmark, France, Britain, Russia, and Germany. There's even a guy from Australia who saw this! So, to that Aussie from down under, g'day mate, and welcome to our radical blog we call Drink the Kool-Aid ( this welcome is for all foreigners).

Pepper spray

I was recently looking at a website called detentionslip.org. I found an article that said a child was sprayed with pepper spray. Then I thought to myself, wow, that kid must have gone insane for the school to call the police and for them to pepper spray him. Then I read the short 3 sentence article to figure out he just went insane and out of control. What I read was that he had a tantrum and started pulling out pieces of wood. Then, I thought, holy crap that kid is either mega strong or they have really bad constructors. Now do I think he should have been pepper sprayed, personally no, but I might be a little biased because of my age. I personally believe that there could have been a more civilized approached to this chaos. For example, get him isolated and call his parents to help calm him down. Thank you for listening hope you come back.

Pie Day

Today was pie day meaning some teachers got pied in the face. They were pied in the face because their team didn't collect enough money or the penny war. The penny war was a war with teachers to try and raise money in pennies for victims in Japan. The losers were Mr. R, Mrs. V, Mr. C, and Mrs. C. Mr. C was first to get pied, then Mrs. V, then Mr. R, and then Mrs. C. They all got hit pretty hard except Mrs. C. I felt she should've gotten pied harder. She barely got pied; There was only a couple of bits of pie. This was pie day after the penny war.

Outsiders Journal #7

Yes, I do believe that everyone has a chance to control their own destiny. This does not mean that I think that no one has obstacles in order to get there. I understand that some people have to face things in order to get to their dreams. Now in some cases people can not control their own destiny. For example, if you are in a wheelchair because you are paralyzed from the waist down you can not just stand you and start sprinting. That is just not humanly possible. Now in most case, like wanting to get into a good college, you can control that by working hard and getting good grades.

Speak Entry 8- How can Melinda's life be compared to the pruning of the tree?

Her father explains to a little kid that the arborists cut off the disease and damage of the tree so it will make it possible for the tree to grow again. The pruning of this tree compares to Melinda's life because she needs to get rid of all the bad in her life. Once she gets rid of the bad, the good in her life will start to grow back on her life. Melinda's life right now isn't how she wants it to be; it's like the disease and damage on the tree. She wants it to be good and not like the disease on the tree. She wants her life to grow again like the tree did . This is how the pruning of the tree compares to Melinda's life.

Speak Entry 7- David tells Melinda something she may not want to hear. What should his words mean to her?

David tells Melinda that "people have to speak up for their rights." He was referring to the suffragettes. His words should mean to her that she needs to start speaking up to people about how she feels. He said to her that he thought it was unfair that she got stuck in MISS. But he also to told her that she needs to start speaking up for herself to make a difference for herself. When he referred to the suffragettes, he meant that if the women didn't speak up, they wouldn't have been able to vote. The women fought for their rights. They couldn't get their rights if they were silent. He said it would like letting the bad guys win. This is what David's words meant to Melinda.

Speak Entry 6- Mr. Freeman's Words of Wisdom

One of Mr. Freeman's words of wisdom is "You must walk alone to find your soul." I think this saying is true because sometimes you need to go your own way by yourself to find what you really want. From personal experience, I sometimes ride to my bike to different areas to see if the area is a good place for training. I also think it's false because you sometimes can't go your own way to find your soul. I feel this way because you need lots of real life experience to find your soul. I also don't fully agree with this statement because you also sometimes need a group/other people to find your soul. You can't always do it all by yourself; you need help too. This is why I think it's true and false.

Speak Entry 5- Why is it that people sometimes "like us" more when they can get something out of us?

People sometimes like us more because they like to take advantage. They take advantage because they are probably either free- loaders or they just get into a habit of taking advantage of people. I don't really understand what it means when it says "when they can get more out of us," but my guess is that they take advantage. People might also do that because they might want to take advantage of becoming popular in a certain. In the book Speak, I don't think the Marthas are being good friends to Heather. I don't think they are because they are taking advantage of Heather. Since Heather got a job as a model, they are taking advantage of her because it's good for her to stay in the group and the Marthas are gaining popularity. This is why people sometimes take advantage of other people.

Thursday, April 7, 2011

Speak Entry 4- Why is Melinda relieved and sad not to go trick or treating?

I think Melinda is relieved that she doesn't go because she doesn't have to tell her parents that nobody asked her to go with them. She wouldn't want to tell her mom and dad that she has no friends other than Heather. To make it seem like she was a little mad, she stomped up to her room and shut the door. Her friend Heather didn't go trick or treating with her because Heather went with little kids so the moms can get a break. I think she's sad because know one invited her to anything. Her ex- friend, Rachel, was invited to a party but Melinda wasn't due to her reputation. I would feel very sad to leave my childhood traditions behind because I would feel like I'm getting older and I'm starting to change. This is why I think Melinda was relieved and sad that she didn't go trick or treating.

Manchester United F.C.

There are many teams out there that I like: Angels, Heat, Packers and USC to name a few. But there is only one team out there that I truly support: Manchester United F.C. Yes, this English soccer club is by far the my favorite team. Why? Because of the legacy behind it.

Formed in 1878, this team started as an average team and later became a under average team. That was until manager Alex Ferguson came in 1986, and since then has added to collection of achievements of Manchester, including 18 League Titles, 11 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 3 European Cups, and 1 FIFA Club World Cup. They have owned many legendary players of the past(George Best, Bobby Charlton, David Beckham) and present( Chistiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs). This is just some of the many accomplishments United can boast about. Yes this one of the greatest teams ever, which is why it's also my favorite.

Speak Entry 3- Are people sometimes different on the outside than on the inside?

I believe yes that people are different on the outside than the inside. Sometimes people don't like to show there inside because it might be bad or it might be good enough where it's embarrassing. I think Melinda fits this description because on the outside she's quiet and shy. On the inside she talks about all the people that hate her and the people she hates in a bad way. Melinda gives her teachers really bad names they don't know about because she doesn't talk in person. It's true about people because they are afraid to bring out the other side of them. This is why people are different on the outside than on the inside.

66ers take second in spring nationals

My team the 66ers took a whooping 5 hour drive to Arizona to take on the top teams around the world, there were 37 of the elite top teams. Are team arrived there with high hopes of winning the prestige tournament. The first day was no question as we beat the Bellvue baseball club from Washington 11-o.Pretty surprising because it rains half the year. Then we had a double header with the Central California Grizzlies. They took a 2-0 lead but we soon rebound with a 16-2 FINAL SCORE.We got the 3 seed out of 37,pretty good start. Then we took on a team from Glendora,Ca the Patriots. We played an amazing game as two kids hit it out of the stadium. The final was 14-2 .We then were matched up with the Encinatas Reds. They had nice lead 4-1 through 5 then finally are bats came alive with the final 8-6.This meant we were in the semifinals. We took on the El Paso Pirates. This game was not forget able as we scored 8 in the first.in fact one kid hit it out of the stadium. We won 12-3.The finals matched us up with the nations best the Chandler Rangers. The game was very intense as we out hit them 11-4 yet we made very many errors. We lost with a sad score of 4-1.We still had a great tournament and a great time.

Speak- Entry 2

I think it means to be able to say how u feel. Sometimes it can be negative and sometimes positive. People often times like to express how they feel in a verbal manner. In school it can be inappropriate sometimes because of the subject it might be on. It also can be hurtful if your talking about a teacher. But it can also be appropriate if your talking about education. In the public, you are free to speak your mind and people can't do anything about it. This is what I think free speech is.

Speak- Entry 1

I think we don't like them because we are jealous of them. For me in cycling, if someone beats me I tend to get jealous because they were stronger than me that day. So I tend not to like them because they beat me in one race. In music, if I hear someone play a sax and they sound good then I get jealous because I want to be that good. In school I could really careless if someone has better grades because I think I have good grades that will get to me a university. I don't think it's fair though because I still have time to improve and I'm discriminating them because they are really good at something and I should be congratulating them instead of getting jealous of them. Adults are not like this because they've lived life enough to not really care about little things like that.

Irony

This week in my English class, we are learning about irony. Irony is something that happens or is said that is the opposite of what you would expect. The 3 types of irony are verbal, situational and dramatic. If you still don't undertstand irony, I have found a funny site that humorously describes irony.

Example of Irony:"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"

Legends

legands is a great place to get food. They have some delicious burgers.the burgers they give out are pretty big. When you order fries they give you a lot of fries like really a lot. Although the place is expensive like $8 a burger but the good thing about it is that at the end you get so full that you cant have no more. There only like four legends in the whole U.S and there are al in southern california. This is my review on Legends.

Callville Bay Classic Stage Race

Recently I raced in Callville Bay right by Lake Mead in Nevada. There were 20 riders in our category and 8 of my teammates in the same category. The first stage was the time trial. It was a 4 mile climbing time trial. My time was 10 minutes and 7 seconds which put me in 3rd place overall 7 seconds behind the leader and 4 seconds behind second place. The next stage was the 27 mile road race. Our team went into stage 2 managing 3rd place (me) all the way to 10th place with all of us being in order. Since I was closest to the General Classification, I would be the captain out on the road. We started off with the 15-16 year olds which made it a harder race. The first 4 miles were neutral miles; which meant the time being to go easy and wait until we are out on open roads to start racing. When we were out onto open roads, the attacks started to come. We were averaging about 25 mph on the flats and about 18 mph on the hills. By the time we made it to the turn around, it was me, my teammate in 4th overall, the leader from San Diego, and the rest of the 15-16 year olds. As we started climbing again, my teammate fell back a little bit. The next climb, I started to get dropped; but luckily, m teammate caught me in time to give a little more effort for me and pull me all the way back to the group. He did an AMAZING job to pull me back to an elite group of riders. When we turned right on to the finish straight, everyone started sprinting and I couldn't hang on anymore. The race leader was able to stay a little longer and gain 10 seconds on me. By the end of the day I gained 2 minutes on second place; which moved me up to second place overall 17 seconds behind the leader. The last stage landed on my birthday. It was stage 3- the criterium. The inevitable plan was for me to try and gain my time back to get into first and for my teammate, closest to me on the overall, to try and win.
But the plan didn't work when we found out that we were racing with the 15-16 year olds again. So my whole object was to just sit in behind the leader and suck his wheel all day and let him use his energy. I was then also planning on leading out my teammate for the win. But on the last turn he clipped his wheel on the ground and lost his position for the sprint. As soon as I heard him say "ah dang it!!," I knew I had to go. I came around the leader and sprinted all the way to victory. As I crossed the line I rose my hands in the air and screamed for joy. At the end of the stage race, I was second overall 13 seconds behind the leader. I got on the podium with my teammate in 3rd, me in second, and the kid from San Diego in first. After that, the announcer found out it was my birthday and gave me something extra special for my win; hugs and kisses on the cheek from the Mandalay Bay Showgirls or as us cyclists call them; Podium girls. This was a great weekend at the Callville Bay Classic Stage Race.

Last poem

A little late on this one.

The opposite of happy,
Is what a person shows when they have lost something,
something like a precious pet that they loved.

In 'N' Out

Jacoby, Trevor, and Osbaldo watch this. I think In 'N' Out is the best fast food restaurant ever. Their hamburgers are PHENOMENAL. The patties are very lean and they taste so tender and juicy. You can get your burger as big as a 5 by 5. Unless you know someone that works at a certain In 'N' Out, you can get it bigger than a 5 by 5. The service at every single In 'N' Out you go to is great and the same at every single one. The staff is kind and is always happy to help you. They are always cleaning up their facilities. Before you work at In 'N' Out, you have to get trained at In 'N' Out University in Baldwin Park, California, where the first In 'N' out was established. You have to go there for training because the company wants perfection before you start working at In 'N' Out. In 'N' Out has expanded throughout California and in parts of Nevada and Arizona. This is why I think In 'N' Out is the best fast food restaurant ever!!

Chuck E Cheese

Hey Jacoby and Osbaldo you guys got nothing on Chuck E Cheese. This place you can enjoy great entertainment with all the games and rides.Yes I did say rides and they go up down and whatever direction you can go.They have a a play area with tubes, tunnels, and all the bells and whistles. There a complete gourmet of food items including my favorite FRIED CHICKEN with many others such as pizza. Those housewives don't have to worry because they have a place for you to go enjoy your salad. Those mouth watering cinnamon and apple crisps bites. There games range from skee ball to racing cars.Once your done you can use all those tickets to buy a gumball machine or whatever floats your boat .They have the best of both worlds.Did I forget to mention Chucke himself .Hes awesome once you get to know him.Chuck E Cheese ,WHERE A KID CAN BE A KID.

The Hat

Following Osbaldo's post about burgers, I want to talk about a burger joint I've been recently that's called The Hat. It's a chain of small restaurants originating from Alhambra and scattered around So Cal that specialize in pastrami, especially their signature, the pastrami dip. Now, I'm not talking about teeny-weeny sandwiches with two slices of pastrami. No, I'm talking about a humongous burger filled with two inches of heavenly-made pastrami. they cook so much pastrami that customers eat up to 15 tons of pastrami a week! there are other things on the menu, but if you go there, try their pastrami dip. It's radical!

Jack In The Box

Jack In The Box is a great place to get fast food. They have some good fries and burgers. I personaly like the tacos. They are 2 for a dollar. Most of there meals are cheap and affordable compared to other fast food resturants. They always have some sort of promotions like free tacos, fries or specials like the jumbo deal wich comes a burger, fries, drink, and a taco for only 3 bucks. That's a really good deal. This is why jack in the box is a good fast food resturant.

I believe that this poetry experience was a lot better than I thought it would. I thought it would be one of those oh great i have to do 15 poems. Formula Poem

Rush Hour
Honking
Bored on the 10
Noisy, slow, bumper-to-bumper

Day 14- Sense Poems

A colorful rainforest.
Pineapples.
Parrots.
Loose dirt.
Extraordinary Bananas.
She would go crazy if she saw this.

Day 13- Writing About Weather

RAIN
Rain comes in quiet on gloomy days.
It is sometimes hard and sometimes soft.
Ugly grey clouds make up the rain
in the sky.
When you see the colorful rainbow,
you know the rain is gone.

Day 15- Rhetorical Questions

Dogs
I wonder if dogs can actually understand what we tell them?
I think they do sometimes
They sometimes sit down when we say
"Sit!!'
But then they don't because they don't even speak the same way humans do.
Maybe they speak a language we've never heard of?
We'll never know.
Fear is a misty gray.
It taste sour like a lemon.
It smells like death is coming your way,
and reminds me of foggy, murky, bog.
It sounds quite,
as if something might happen spontaneously,
fear make me sweat at every moment.

Ocean

A glimpse of beautiful gold sunset
Silky smooth sand rejuvenating my inner senses
Crusty crabs scavenge for dinner

Rhetorical Questions Poem

Why do we call gravity gravity?
well why not
I guess I could say that about any word
Why do we call it a guitar
I guess we will never know.

The Melo-Drama

Today I want to talk about the Carmelo Anthony trade to the Knicks. In it, the New York team receives Melo and Chauncey Billups, a scoring machine and a 3-point specialist. In return, Anthony's former team, the Nuggets, get Wilson chandler, Raymond Felton, and Danilo Galinari, 3 out of the top 4 players in the Knicks. There were also other people traded as the T-Wolves get Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry. So 3 questions remain: will the Knicks reach greatness even with loss of talent, will the Nuggets recover without Melo, and will the T-Wolves ever get a good season? Time will tell, so stay tuned folks.

PS3 vs XBOX 360

There has been a lot of arguing going on with which is better. I personaly think that PS3 is way better then XBOX. It comes with free online and has better connection than XBOX. More people play PS3 than XBOX. PS3 has blueray and XBOX doesn't. PS3 is more for a HD look. Although XBOX gets add ons such ass map packs for games and stuff and PS3 gets them a month later. This is what I think by wich is better.

Valley of the Sun Stage Race

This past weekend, my cycling team took a trip to Phoenix, Arizona for the Valley of the Sun 3 Day Stage Race. The race consisted of an individual time trial, a road race, and a criterium. The first day's time trial went better than I expected and 2 other teammates in my age group. My other teammate did great by winning the stage by 3 seconds ahead of a 2 time national time trial and road race champion. I finished 1 minute and 10 seconds back from first place and finished 4th place that day. The next day was the road race. 75 % of the race was extremely easy. I sat in the group the whole time conserving my energy for the last 2 miles. When we hit 3km to go, 2 of my teammates went to the front and spat out short little pulls before the finishing climb. We were a quarter of the way up the climb, and I noticed it was me, my teammate who was in first place going into that stage, and the national champion from Colorado. I got to the front and pulled all the way up at about 22- 23 mph. With 1km to go, I dropped the national champion. I also started to drop my teammate with 500 meters to go. he told me not to wait and keep going for the win. I soloed on for the win that day with a 10 second time bonus at the end for the winner. I finished 5 seconds ahead of my teammate, 15 seconds ahead of the national champion, and 1 minute ahead of the person in 3rd place; who was from El Paso, Texas. At the end of the day, I got kisses from the podium girls and I got bumped from 4th place to 3rd place and into a podium position. The next day was originally supposed to be a 30 minute criterium, but the race was delayed an hour and a half due to the lack of race organizers for not getting the safety hay bails ready for the light poles. Our race then turned into a 20 minute race. Right from the gun, the national champion attacked to try and get a breakaway started to gain time. But me and my teammate caught him to have our own 3 man breakaway. We used the national champion to do all the work and loose his energy. On the last lap, I attacked to make the national champion chase me to so he can lose his energy. Halfway through the lap, my teammate attacked and I went along with him. We dropped the national champion and soloed off for a 1- 2 team win. He got first and I got second finishing right on his wheel and not giving him a challenge for the win. I basically let him have the win because it was the classy thing to do. This is what happened during my time in Arizona.

Your Opinion

As everyone knows in our class we have been doing the 30 days of poetry assignment. I don't really mind it even though i don't like poetry but many of you might like it. I would actually like to know your opinions about poetry if you can.

Vuvuzelas

Today I want to talk about vuvuzelas. Vuvuzelas are the plastic horns in which you blow in them. It makes a loud and annoying sound. they were first introduced to the world in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as the official instrument for South Africa. Since then, many people have bought these horns to root for their team. Others have complained about the sound it makes is annoying, prevents hearing the game and causes hearing loss. Because of those reasons, many places have banned vuvuzelas like Yankee Stadium, the Little League World Series and UFC events.

Day 2- Synonym Poetry

Mean
Cruel, greedy, selfish, niggard
Being mean isn't cool. You can be mean in different ways other than saying words.

Everyone has a little bit of nervousness in them. At times people get very nervy before special events.

Day 1- Concrete Poetry

staircases usually have 10
steps going up and down normal
sized houses like my friends old house
in San Dimas. These are usually how stairs are.

The Super Bowl

Recently, the Green Bay Packers won the 2o11 XLV Super Bowl against the unwanted Pittsburgh Steelers. The Pre- game show turned out to be a disaster because Christina Aguilara screwed up the national anthem. Then at halftime the Black Eyed Peas and Usher played a not so good performance. But things got better at the end when the Packers beat the Steelers 31-25.

Subway

Hello all readers today I will write a review about a sandwich shop called Subway. It has a long line of sandwich options. You get to tell the people what you want and they put it in it. They have the five dollar foot long. They have a very good variety of sandwiches. I like the Meatball sub. it comes with many meatballs, cheese, and anything else you want.

NBA All-Star Weekend

In about a month or so, on Febraury 20th, one of the most celebrated game will be played: the All-Star game. In it, the top players in Western and Eastern Conferences will go head-to-head in a spectacular game of tricks and skill. This year, it will be hosted in center of LA, the famous Staples Center. I myself will personally watch the Lebron-Kobe matchup. In all this hype about it, I would like to know who you would choose for the starting lineup for the game. So please comment on who you would pick.

Does power corrupt

I do think that power corrupts those who have it. I think this because in many ways you can see that power does corrupt. Some big companies are corrupt and they will show it every once in awhile. In "The House of the Scorpion" there are many signs of corruptions in the book. El Paton had so much power he had everything he needed. The keepers are corrupt by keeping all the kids working and eating only plankton. So yes power corrupts those who do have it.
I think that students who blame other students just need someone to blame for there schools failure. If I where to answer that question I would give it some thought first. I would do this because you should think it out first before you say it. But my answer for this question, and not to hurt any teachers feelings, is that I think it is the teachers fault for our schools failures. I think this because if the teachers cant control or just teach the students the students will fail. This is my opinion and others can differ but I do stick with my opinion.

Friday, January 14, 2011

I think that what Nancy Farmer is talking about an idea in "The House of the Scorpion" about the Five-legged horse is probabaly attacking the government of socialism. I think this because socialism is "the economic political thoery advocating public or common ownership and coopertive management of the means of production and allocation of resources." In the book it seems like the Keepers are using this in an oposite manner or in a bad way since they have the kids doing the work in a since of cooperation but they do it to get food. In the book one of the kids told Matt "My advice for you is to sit your butt down while you have the chance" kind of saying that the keepers dont like when you dont work right away. This is my opinion on this post.Font size

Type of government that H.O.T.S has

In the novel "House of the Scorpion" by Nancy Farmer,, Nancy farmer is trying to say that the type of government is socialism. I think this because it talks about El Patron ruling Opium, but they also talk about thm rulin themselves. For example, "Wich we call individualism," (Farmer 274) Raul says this because everybody rules themselves but theres is a ruler as well that tells them what to do (democracy). This is what i think the type government the story has

House of scorpion goverment

Some people are debating on the government that Nancy Farmer is trying to express in the book House of Scorpion.I personally think she is trying to show the importance of a Democracy. She shows this as she mentions the Five Legged Horse. "Suppose a horse grew a fifth leg that only wanted to please itself. The fifth leg would want to walk slowly and watch the meadow. The poor animal would fall over. That's why would have to take the horse to a vet a get the fifth leg cut off.It might seem harsh buts its what we got to do to pull together."(page 274)This shows that if we all have to lead by one we will not accomplish are goal.Democracy shows that governing of the people will give many views. This will enhance the power of government. It show this on http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/democracy. United States shows some of this power in their government.

House of scorpion goverment

Form of Government

In the story House of the Scorpion, Nancy Farmer brings in politics in the chapter the Five- Legged Horse. She uses the five- legged horse as a form of government. I believe the form of government is a communism. It's a communist government because Raul, the keeper, tries to take control of all the lost boys and girls. Communism basically means one person trying to take control of everybody.

The 5-Legged Government

For our classwork, our teacher has asked us what type of government is mentioned in Nancy Farmer's book the House of the Scorpion when they were discussing the 5-legged Horse.
I believe the government mentioned here is democracy. When Raul was talking about the horse, he said that you must get rid of the 5th leg in order for all the legs to work together. then he mentions that they've "all got pull together" in order to make it (Farmer, 274). In a democracy, the people rule their own government. everybody has to work together in order to for their government to work. This is similair to the legs of the horse. Obviously, Nancy Farmer is writing about democracy in her novel.

Form of Government

I will be blogging about our teacher asked us to blog about. We have to say what type of government an author is talking about in the book House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. I think the author is talking about communism. This is because all people are supposed to be equal but when you think something you are not supposed to think you are cut down. I think this quote from www.allaboutphilosophy.org/commumnism.htm shows what when they say, "he political results of communism have been horror and atrocity for those under communist rule." This proves that they think that their idea won't work and they are trying to make it work.
