Dana Point Grand Prix
This past weekend I raced in the city of Dana Point. Now normally I race the junior category 13- 14. But this prestigious race didn't have that category; so I raced in the men's category 4 race. We had a full field of 150 riders. The course was a fast, technical 1 mile course with 6 turns and a couple of inclines. We started at 9:30 and we were racing for 40 minutes. My first goal of the day was to start at the first row, which I did. We started really quickly. Through out the whole race I maintained my position in the top 15 spots to stay out of any trouble like crashing. I also wanted to stay in those positions so at the final sprint I could be right in the front. With 3 laps to go I was in position, and then there was a nasty crash at the first turn. A police motorcycle came and stopped right in front of the rider. The next time we came around, the motorcycle was still there at the first turn. As we were making the turn I was on the inside and was not paying attention at all to the motorcycle and I had no idea the motorcycle until after when one of my team mates told me. So as we turned a rider wasn't paying attention and hit the motorcycle while his bike flew 20 feet into the air. As we kept riding, we made it to 1 lap to go safely. I was positioned in the top 20 positions. When we made it to the final chicane, I was right in position to get a top 20. We got on to the final sprint stretch and I tryed to sprint as hard as I can to maintain a top 20 finish. At the end when results were posted, I finished safely in the top 20 spots out of the full field of 150 riders.
